Time To Say Goodbye…

Ola Mae Photography Bike Tour Portugal Solo Trip

IT’S BEEN AN INTENSE WEEK

I have been putting in some serious mileage this week. In a way, I felt like I started to chase after covering as much distance as I could but really- did I have a chance to actually sit in and enjoy the moment?

GETTING LOST

Even when you’re doing the most epic trip of your life you can fall into a routine. I have realized that I started not to be fully in a moment as much as I would like to, and maybe that’s why I have lost almost all of my devices…

FIRST, IT WAS THE PHONE

Anyone who ever met me knows that I am a queen of clumsiness. My devices don’t have an easy life with me as I keep dropping things and bumping them into one another. My phone had finally had it as one day after yet another fall the screen was decorated with a neon line that spread itself across a display… Next followed the back and respectively front camera of the phone… I love Apple devices but the cost of the repair was close to 400 Euros and taken that’s a month worth of traveling it is needless to say that I didn’t go for it…

THE BIGGEST LOST

Maybe the Universe was telling me “Girl, look up in the sky more, stop seeing things through the screen!” but I clearly didn’t get the memo… On one EXTREMELY windy evening, I was flying my drone to catch the most spectacular sunset ever and lost the connection. And just like that- the drone was gone…

SCREENTIME

So what’s the lesson here? Well, I set up app limits on my phone and listened to a podcast about ways of trying to break the nasty habit of checking my phone every 5 minutes. The devices that I use are super helpful, but I started to feel like I was paying too much attention to them, in an unhealthy way, and maybe that’s why I am now only left with my DSLR camera (which has an issue with mounting the lens so it looks like I would need to have it looked at soon too…)

SO WHAT ABOUT THAT DRONE?

Gosh, I feel like the drone was one of the most helpful devices that I had on a trip. It truly has been an amazing experience to film the trip, and I would definitely consider getting another one, providing it is at a reasonable price.

But for now, maybe I just need to be without all of those extras for a while?

This is the last outtake that I managed to back up on my drive.

ORANGESEVERYWHERE!

On the flip side, I have found myself in orange heaven. This area is simply radiating bright orange color and everywhere you go, you can just pick the fruit straight from the tree. I kid you not when I say that I kept a 2-3 kg bag of them in one of my panniers at all time this week!

PROGRESS SO FAR

I was meant to arrive in Barcelona yesterday but decided that there is no rush and my body needs a break. And so I am staying in Tarragona as friends keep sending me info about covid restrictions getting stricter everywhere.

This week the police stopped me and asked about my trip. I truthfully answered all of the questions and had the officer telling me to be careful on the road and enjoy my trip.

Honestly, the idea of breaking the rules is getting blurrier and blurrier as we continue this massive pan(ic)demic. Don’t know what the governments have in store for us but I will be biking over to France, and then Italy after I spend a few days in Barcelona- let’s see if they can stop me.
